Where can you drive 70 in Illinois? Follow the green lines

Beginning Jan. 1, 87 percent of Interstate highways in Illinois have a speed limit of 70 mph. That's roughly 98 percent of all rural Interstates. The new limit takes effect as soon as new signs are posted.

The new law, passed by the General Assembly last spring, was pushed in part as a bonus for business in Illinois. Proponents said the state's 65 mph limit impeded trucking and other business traffic that could move faster in surrounding states.
